If you've lived in Sun City Hilton Head for more than a season or two, you already know the rhythm. Pickleball in the morning, Pinckney Hall in the evening, a drive to Old Town Bluffton when someone from out of town needs to be impressed. What has shifted this year is what happens on that drive. The Bluffton dining scene outside your gate has quietly turned into a reason to leave campus more often, and the community calendar inside is programming with unusual density between now and October. This summer, the gates matter less than they used to. Here is where to spend the weeks between July heat and the Life Under the Sun celebration in October.
Inside the gates: the July and August calendar worth planning around
The Sun City Community Association has front-loaded summer with ticketed events that sell out fast enough to be worth marking on the fridge now. A few worth knowing:

A note on the comedy show: JR does not shy away from uncomfortable material, so leave the kids at home. The only thing JR will shy away from at this show is profanity. Read the room, or rather, read the disclaimer.
Trivia Night has a household cap on capacity, which is why the "grab your friends" advice actually matters. Tickets for October events go on sale Wednesday, September 1 at 8 a.m. online and at Lifestyle Services, so if Life Under the Sun matters to your household, put a reminder on that morning. The popular sessions clear the queue in the first hour.
The programming to notice is the volunteer and club infrastructure underneath the marquee events. Congratulations to the Sun City Pickleball Club on the success of the Low Country Pickleball Classic. With nearly 400 participants from across the Southeast, the tournament raised $20,000 for local charities. That is a scale most master-planned communities in the Southeast cannot match, and it is a good reason to check the club's next event before assuming pickleball season is winding down.
The three on-campus restaurants, ranked by when you'd actually go
Residents tend to default to whichever restaurant is closest to their neighborhood. This summer, treat the three like separate tools.
Jameson's Charhouse is the special-occasion pick. Jameson's Charhouse located in Bluffton, South Carolina has been the flagship restaurant inside of Sun City Hilton Head Del Webb for the last eight years. We opened the first Jameson's Charhouse outside of the greater Chicago area in 2013 and share the same vision of food and service that we are known for. Steaks, Chops and Seafood along with the passion of exceeding guest expectations still drives us today, 30 years later. It overlooks the Hidden Cypress Golf Course, which makes an early evening reservation the play. Note that Bluffton does not accept OpenTable reservations. Please contact directly for reservations. The Clubhouse at Okatie Creek is the Sunday brunch answer. It offers lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch and is where to bring the friends visiting from up north who want to see a golf course without playing one.
Argent Lakes Pub and Pizzeria is the casual weeknight default. Argent Lakes Pub and Pizzeria opened in the fall of 2020. Located on the North Side of Sun City, Argent Lakes Pub and Pizzeria offers an abundance of outdoor seating, lounge seating, bar seating along with community tables for all to enjoy. It is the one to remember when Jameson's is booked and you don't want to leave the gates.
Outside the gates: the Bluffton openings that actually shift your rotation
Here is the interesting shift. A year ago, if you wanted a new dinner story, you drove to Hilton Head. In 2026, most of the interesting openings landed in Bluffton and New Riverside, which is closer to your front gate than the bridge.
Radici Italian Chophouse. One of Bluffton's most talked-about new restaurants, Radici Italian Chophouse took over the former Pour Richard's space on Bluffton Parkway and opened to strong local interest. If you were a Pour Richard's regular, note that the address is the same and the concept is not.
Local Pie in New Riverside. After months of anticipation, Local Pie has officially opened its newest location in Bluffton's New Riverside development. The Hilton Head Island-based neighborhood pizzeria welcomed its first guests on April 15, bringing its signature wood-fired pies, laid-back atmosphere and family-friendly vibe to one of the area's fastest-growing communities. Bring the grandkids.
Nom Nom Poke Shop. Now open in New Riverside's Compass Commons, Nom Nom Poke Shop offers colorful, customizable poke bowls, a lighter, healthier option for lunch or dinner. 267 Parkside Commons, Ste 102. This is the summer lunch answer when the July humidity has decided against a hot meal.
Greenhouse Restaurant. A new farm-to-table concept has arrived in Old Town Bluffton, offering a refined yet inviting dining experience. Greenhouse Restaurant focuses on seasonal menus and craft cocktails in an intimate setting. Created by sisters Jennifer and Melissa Perri, the restaurant blends elevated cuisine with a personal story rooted in family and hospitality. The brunch is what regulars are talking about.
Coast Roast Coffee. A familiar coffee spot has been reimagined with the opening of Coast Roast Coffee, now in the former Corner Perk space. New owners Camie and Ryan Messick have created a cozy, coastal-inspired café featuring house-roasted coffee, homemade syrups and in-house baked goods. The shop also showcases local art and plans to roast beans on-site in the near future. Meanwhile, a new Corner Perk location is in the works just north of the Bluffton and Buckwalter parkways, so both camps get their preferred cup.
Island Bagel & Deli. The new Island Bagel & Deli on Buckwalter is officially open and ready to serve up breakfast and lunch staples. Bagel-run distance from most Sun City addresses.
Ma Daisy's Porch. At Ma Daisy's Porch, every visit is a journey through culture, flavor, and tradition. Through Gullah cuisine, rich global flavors, historical storytelling, and engaging entertainment, Ma Daisy's is home to Chef B's and the Backu Bakery. Look for their Heritage Center, which will feature rotating exhibits and an open-air market. 1533 Fording Island Rd., Suite 296. A weekend lunch here doubles as a Gullah heritage lesson.
Worth noting for the closure column: Rotten Little Bastard Distillery and Frosted Artistry have both closed. If either was in your rotation, cross them off before you plan a drive.
Free things worth the drive
Not every Sun City summer weekend needs to cost money. Three standing programs are running through August and are worth the ten-to-twenty-minute drive:
Sunset Celebrations at Shelter Cove. Live, local music in the park each Friday night, Jun 19 - Aug 7, 7-10pm. Bring beach chairs or blankets and grab take-out from any of the SCTC restaurants or Kroger and sit back and enjoy the Broad Creek breeze. These FREE concerts are brought to you by the SCTC merchants, with a rotating lineup that includes Deas-Guyz, Cranford & Friends, and Target & the Headliner Horns.
Celebration Park Turtle Talks. Celebration Park Turtle Talks Mondays, June–August, 7:30–9 p.m. Celebration Park, Hilton Head Island Free family-friendly program featuring hands-on activities beginning at 7:30 p.m., followed by a Sea Turtle Talk presentation from 8–9 p.m. led by Amber Kuehn, marine biologist and director of Sea Turtle Patrol HHI. Program focuses on local nesting sea turtles and conservation efforts. If you have not been in a few years, the program has grown. It is the single best free family thing to do with visiting grandchildren, and it takes about ninety minutes end to end.
Halfway Home art exhibit. Halfway Home: A Sea Turtle Art Exhibit Supporting Sea Turtle Patrol HHI, Date: Jul 21, 2026. Pair it with dinner in Shelter Cove and you have a full evening for the cost of parking.
For the Fourth-of-July stragglers, the daytime option that requires no crowds and no chairs is Salute from the Shore, an annual coastal flyover featuring military planes and vintage aircraft, which passes the Hilton Head shoreline around 1:30 p.m.
One shift to plan for
If the pattern from the last two summers holds, the traffic bottleneck is not the bridge to Hilton Head anymore. It is Bluffton Parkway on Friday evenings, especially the stretch near May River Crossing where plans for a new Chipotle at May River Crossing in Bluffton are currently under review. If your evening plan involves Radici or Old Town, leave earlier than you think you need to, or make it a lunch. The New Riverside cluster (Local Pie, Nom Nom, Coast Roast) is the easier weeknight target from most Sun City addresses because it sits west of the pinch point.
The takeaway for a Sun City summer
The through-line of this year is proximity. The community calendar has enough programming to fill any week you want to stay home. When you want to leave, the drive is shorter than it was a year ago because most of what is new opened in Bluffton and New Riverside, not on the island. Plan the ticketed community events first, keep Jameson's for the anniversary and Argent Lakes for the Tuesday, and let the new Bluffton openings absorb the rest of the season.
